Arul Malar Matriculation Higher Secondary School was established in 1974 with the noble motto “Love and Sacrifice.” Founded and administered by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (FIHM), the institution was envisioned as a center of learning that would provide quality education while fostering moral and spiritual values.
The school began as a humble educational initiative dedicated to serving children from all walks of life, especially those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Through unwavering commitment, academic excellence, and dedicated service, the institution steadily progressed and earned recognition for its quality education. In 1987, it was upgraded to a Matriculation School, and in 1990, it attained the status of a Higher Secondary School.
The school is inspired by the vision and educational philosophy of Servant of God Rev. Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, MEP, the founder of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A renowned missionary and visionary educator, Fr. Dupuis firmly believed that education is the most powerful instrument for transforming individuals and society. His mission was to dispel the darkness of ignorance through the light of knowledge and to promote the holistic development of every human person.
Guided by this vision, the Franciscan Sisters continue to uphold his legacy through their educational, healthcare, and social service ministries. Today, Arul Malar Matriculation Higher Secondary School stands as a beacon of learning, nurturing generations of students to become competent, compassionate, and responsible citizens.

As a ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (FIHM), our school is part of a rich educational legacy that dates back to 1844, when our Founder, Servant of God Rev. Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, MEP, pioneered the education of women and the underprivileged in India. Inspired by his vision, generations of FIHM Sisters have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to transforming lives through education and empowering communities through knowledge, values, and service.
Today, the Congregation continues its mission across India and in several countries around the world, including Italy, Germany, France, East Africa, Papua New Guinea and the United States of America.
